Bellini at the Met & The Ring at Grange Park Opera
Oddly, Wagner admired Bellini.
In the 1880s he said to a colleague in Naples: “They all think me an Orcus with regard to Italian music and place me in opposition to Bellini. But no, no, a thousand times no. Bellini is one of my predilections: his music is all heart, closely, intimately linked to the words.”
Our Ring Cycle director Charlie Edwards opens his Puritani at the Met on New Year’s Eve.
This will be celebrated by the American Friends of Grange Park Opera at the Union Club of NYC.
The site of the Union Club peers down from the crest of Lenox Hill at 69th Street and Park Avenue. The building dates from 1933.
