Thomas Payne
British conductor Thomas Payne is quickly gaining international recognition on the podium. Described as ‘clearly a name to watch’ (Seen and Heard International), Thomas is Musical Director of London City Orchestra and enjoys relationships with a number of opera and ballet companies across the UK and abroad.
From 2018-20, Thomas was on the music staff of The Royal Opera and Royal Ballet as a member of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artists Programme. During his time there he was assistant and cover conductor for productions of Otello, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Manon, Mayerling and Don Quixote among many others.
He has since gone on to conduct orchestras such as The Orchestra of The Royal Opera House, The Royal Danish Theatre and Gothenburg Opera and will make his debut this season with Scottish Ballet in The Snow Queen. Thomas was also invited by Sir Antonio Pappano to serve as Assistant Conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra on Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero and Respighi’s Church Windows and by Lee Reynolds for recordings and concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
In 2021/22 he returned to The Royal Opera and Grange Park Opera as Off-Stage and Assistant Conductor for Rigoletto, Otello, La Gioconda and Der fliegende Holländer and The Excursions of Mr Broucek.
