Nao Masuda
Japanese born Nao Masuda started composing and performing at the age of thirteen. While working mainly as a singer-songwriter and at times as an instrumentalist playing several instruments in unorthodox ways, she also produced and directed multimedia events and exhibitions as an artist/designer.
In1998 Nao moved from Tokyo to London where she worked and performed with a number of bands and collaborative projects.
In 2002 Nao joined a London-based Taiko Drumming group and toured internationally. In 2005 she became independent and started performing solo and in ensemble with bands and orchestras of various musical styles.
In 2007 Nao took part in her first theatre piece as a solo live musician, and has since provided various types of live and recorded music/soundscapes for projects of diverse disciplines, as a singer/multi-instrumentalist/physical performer.
Nao’s work as a a composer and recording artist so far includes music for dance, acrobatics, theatres, films and fashion shows.
As a qualified martial artist (Shotokan Karate) and instructor, Nao has assisted dancers /performers in developing movements and choreographing stylised fight scenes in several projects, and works as a film-maker/ editor/composer for the field.
