John Doyle

John Doyle has been Artistic Director of five prestigious theatre companies in the UK and the US. He has an extensive directing career in theatre, film and opera.

Recent credits include directing the world premiere of a new musical, Alfred Hitchcock Presents for Theatre Royal, Bath. His credits in the US include productions of Sweeny Todd (Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical), Company (Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical), The Visit (Tony Nom. Best Musical, Drama Desk Nom. Best Director), The Colour Purple (Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director of a Musical, Grammy Award), Pacific Overtures (Drama Desk Nom, Best Musical Revival), Carmen Jones (Audelco Award, Best Musical Revival, Lortel Nom, Best Director)  Mahogonny (Los Angeles Opera, 2 Grammy Awards), Passion (Drama Desk Nom. Best Director of a Musical), Road Show , Caucasian Chalk Circle, Kiss Me Kate and, Assassins (Lucille Lortel Nom, Best Musical Revival, Best Director of a Musical). As well as numerous credits in London’s West End, John has also directed at Grange Park Opera, Sydney Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, La Fenice in Venice, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Second Stage Theatre, Princeton McCarter Theatre and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
