Janis Kelly

Lyric Soprano, Janis Kelly studied at RSAMD, RCM and in Paris. She has sung many roles with Grange Park Opera and directed Così fan Tutte (2001) and Iolanthe (2003).

Recent key appearances include Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Glybdebourne Festival), Mrs Lovett Sweeney Todd (WNO), Mrs Nixon Nixon in China (Metropolitan Opera), Lady Billows Albert Herring (Los Angeles), Hazel George in the World Premiere of Philip Glass’ The Perfect American (Teatro Real, Madrid and ENO), Mrs Naidoo Satyagraha, Polly Jack the Ripper (ENO), Miss Jessel The Turn of the Screw and Mrs Coyle Owen Wingrave (Toulouse), Berta Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Madame Jouvenot Adriana Lecouvreur and Nella Gianni Schicchi (ROH), Berta (Glyndebourne), Christine Intermezzo (Buxton), Sister Helen in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking (Oregon), Marcellina (ENO and Garsington).

Janis had worldwide acclaim in the lead role in Rufus Wainwright’s Prima Donna (Manchester International Festival, Sadler’s Wells, Toronto, Portland, ROH and Madrid) and recently recorded it for Deutche Gramophone.

Janis holds the chair in Vocal Performance at RCM and is titled Professor.
