David Shipley
Last summer David, a recent graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at Covent Garden, played two small but vital roles in Don Carlo: the Monk and Ghost of Philip II’s father.
Born in Ipswich, his roles at Covent Garden included Dr Grenvil La traviata, Antinous Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria, Zuniga Carmen, Arthur /Third Officer The Lighthouse, High Priest of Baal Nabucco, various roles The Nose. Nightwatchmen Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
Recent and forthcoming engagements include Rocco Fidelio (Oxford Philharmonic), Sarastro Zauberflöte (Glyndebourne tour), Gremin Eugene Onegin (Opernhaus Zürich), Sparafucile Rigoletto (Houston Grand Opera and Scottish Opera), Bottom A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scottish Opera), Sandoval Le Duc d’Albe (Vlaanderen Opera), Ratcliffe Billy Budd (Opera di Roma), Truffaldino Ariadne auf Naxos (Champs Elysées, d’Aix-en-Provence Festival), Zuniga Carmen, Pistola Falstaff (Verbier Festival). David studied the Royal Academy of Music and the opera course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
