Primary Robins Half Term Report
This year we are celebrating ten years of Primary Robins. There are still 6060 Robins having a weekly singing class. A couple of schools have asked to put Primary Robins on hold because of curriculum catch-up, meaning we have been able to include three new schools in Staffordshire – Riverview Primary, Anglesey Primary and Victoria Community School. We have a list of schools in this area keen to start the project as and when funding allows.
On Thursday 28 September Primary Robins from three Hampshire schools performed at The Theatre Royal in Winchester. Redbridge Primary School and Tanners Brook Primary School have sung with Primary Robins since the project began. It was a wonderful concert. The Robins were accompanied by members of the Berkeley Ensemble and the brilliant mezzo-soprano, Olivia Ray, sang.
Rebekah Wakely was a Robin herself, when she was at Redbridge Primary School, and in 2016 she was in Grange Park Opera’s production of Oliver! Rebekah continued singing at secondary school and college and now writes and performs her own songs. I was thrilled that she was able to be at the concert and sing one of her own compositions, and I know she will have inspired so many of the children.
