Stephen Gosztony
23 August 1961 – 29 August 2022
Stephen Gosztony was a truly remarkable man. And it is a tragedy that he has died at just 61.He was remarkable for his intelligence, his sense of engagement, his deep knowledge, his rich culture, his practical generosity, his natural modesty, and his ever-playful spirit of fun. He was both interesting and interested on so many fronts – from grand opera to table tennis, from Aboriginal art to European football (and his beloved Real Madrid), from Attic vases to Hungarian Wines. It was apt that – amongst several such commitments – he was a trustee of the Sir John Soane Museum, as he shared the great architect’s delight in collecting, in eclecticism, in education, and in beauty. As a supporter, not just of Grange Park Opera, but of many valuable institutions, cultural and educational, he – together with his no less remarkable wife, Sue, – enriched and brightened the lives not only of those who knew him, but also of many others besides.
