Primary Robins
Every week of the school year, Pimlico Opera gives primary school children a half-hour singing class.
The project began with 380 Robins in Hampshire. Today there are 2,000 Robins spread over Durham, Newcastle, Kent, Hampshire and Surrey.

Testimonials
“I like it when we all know a song really well and look forward to singing it together. Sometimes we even sing them on the playground or on the way to school trips or at each others’ houses. Everyone loves singing with Mr Gibson. It is so good because we can all enjoy it together. I always smile the whole time”

“The children at Winnall Primary School have a real love for singing, and this has been inspired by the regular sessions from Pimlico Opera. Many children have gained opportunities outside school to further their love of singing and the profile of singing has been raised across the school”
Alison Rhoes, Head
“As well as developing vocal skills I try to give the students a head start in their musical education in secondary school and try to use as much technical vocabulary as possible. We often make links with the literacy work that they have been doing”
Leo Nelson, Primary Robins teacher in Newcastle
“The rewards for the children from participating in their weekly singing sessions with David is clear to see. The room becomes alive with excitement and joy as the children sing, and often dance, forgetting all else for half an hour. It brings with it huge benefits; fostering a sense of belonging, togetherness and encouraging social engagement and cultural capital through the varied and often historical song choice. It is genuinely one of the children’s highlights of their week”
Alex Young, Class Teacher
“I really liked singing at Guildford Cathedral. While I was singing I felt so proud of myself because all of us singing sounded really nice”
Sam, Year 4
“We have more confidence when we sing”
