What is the Parish Ticket?

A Parish Ticket costs just £15 and is available for people who live locally or in the Parishes surrounding West Horsley who have never seen an opera at Grange Park Opera’s Theatre in the Woods; something Bamber would have wished.

Bamber’s wishes

When Bamber inherited West Horsley Place in 2014, he was quick to decide that it should become a focal point for local people and visitors.

To quote Michael Frayn ‘That famous charm of Bamber’s wasn’t just a superficial social skill. It went very deep – it was a kind of grace. It was style, yes – but informed by kindness. It was goodness. That’s what lay beneath that golden presence – a golden heart’

As a tribute to Bamber, we want to invite local people, who haven’t been before, to see an opera, at a special price of just £15.

The 2022 Season

With three of the biggest names in the opera world – Bryn Terfel, Simon Keenlyside and Joseph Calleja – the season should not be missed. On stage you will encounter immense both vocal firepower and spectacular sets.

Janacek’s comedy about Mr Broucek is sung in English (with surtitles). It is a hilarious trip to the moon, to war in the 1400s and back to the pub. Wherever he goes, Mr Broucek finds annoying people.

Shakespeare’s tale of the tragic general Otello manipulated into a frenzy of paranoia by his sidekick, Iago (played by Simon Keenlyside), was an immediate success. Verdi had 20 curtain calls at the opening night. Wonderful voices, wonderful tunes. World class singing.

For La Gioconda, the cast has been assembled from Vienna, Naples, Parma, Malta and New Mexico. Faithless Prince Enzo (played by Joseph Calleja) is breaking the heart of the singer, La Gioconda. Meanwhile the evil spy, Barnaba, weaves a web of lies to drag her further into despair.

Alas Flying Dutchman with Bryn is sold out.
